About Me

Jason Arthurs is a photojournalist based in Raleigh, NC. He was named North Carolina Photographer of the Year in 2005 and 2006, with portfolios containing work from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a documentary project in India and a story about a young mother battling terminal cancer. His work has also received awards from photojournalism's most prestigious competitions including the Pictures of the Year International and NPPA's Best of Photojournalism.

Arthurs graduated from the University of North Carolina, where he studied photojournalism and history. He was awarded a documentary grant from the UNC School of Journalism to complete a multimedia documentary about truck stop chapels. He worked at newspapers for 6 years, including one year on staff at the Winston-Salem Journal and three years at the Raleigh News & Observer. Since returning to his home state of North Carolina in 2005, he has served as faculty on the Carolina Photojournalism Workshops whose projects have also received international awards for digital storytelling.
