I am a documentary filmmaker, photographer, and pug dad based in Raleigh, NC. For a lot of you, that’s really all you need to know about me! For curious minds, continue reading.

I started out my career working for newspapers, mostly living out of my car and photographing subjects and stories so diverse you wouldn’t even believe me if I told you. But I have a big box of newspaper clippings in my closet as proof. I loved that job, and it prepared me for my transition into filmmaking more than I even understood at the time. I was twice named North Carolina Photographer of the Year and runner-up National Photographer of the Year from from National Press Photographer’s Association. (I have these awards hanging in my studio bathroom, also as proof)

During the last decade I have been very focused on documentary filmmaking. I have made a few full - length films (you can see those trailers here) and traveled with them to film festivals all over the country. My second film, which I co-directed with my friend and colleague Ted Richardson, was selected by the U.S. State Department to be a part of the American Film Showcase and screen at U.S. Embassies all over the globe. I just finished a film about a hog farmer (called Hog Farmer, but other than the name - not what you would expect, I promise) and I’m working on a full-length film with my incredibly talented wife, Liz, about one of the oldest punk rock music venues in the country.

I’m lucky enough to have gotten to travel all over the world from Patagonia to Nairobi for my craft of visual storytelling. I’ve worked with big film crews on months long projects, slept in my camper (and a boat, for that matter) for nights at a time to ‘get the shot’, and spent even more late nights tinkering with edits to get them right. A friend recently told me “how you do anything, is how you do everything.” And I can honestly say that if we work together I will bring the same passion I have to every project to yours.
